A wonderful boy, Milo Kessler, died of cancer Friday; the Milo Kessler Memorial fund will benefit the Brooklyn Tech Math Major, which He held dear. If you can afford to give, pick the "Milo Kessler '21 Memorial Fund" under Designation in below link. RIP bthsalumni.org/donate

Wow, I counted 49 amicus briefs in support of Google in the #Gonzalez case, including one by ACLU, Knight First Amendment Institute, Reddit, Inc.. Going to be busy taking them all in. Many explain why the algorithmic recommendations should be within 230’s scope

Sen. Ron Wyden: "Chris Cox and I wrote Section 230 with the following idea: the person who *created* the content is liable for it. Quaint idea, I know." Continues: "Its baffling that the conversation is 'Big Tech'. 230 protects everyone, and the startups need it especially."

The FTC has no oversight over copyright law. Despite that, it held a completely one-sided forum last week on "generative AI and creativity" that was a forum for the content industries to attack fair use, and generative AI-driven creativity. Watch here: ftc.gov/media/creative…

Sens. Hawley+Blumenthal want to strip online platforms of the protections of CDA 230, nixing the immunities they enjoy when amplifying *AI-made* speech. But: the platforms can't discern what's from AI, so they'd have to treat all posts as potential lawsuits. So, a 230 repeal.

The FTC should be embarrassed to have published a report on generative AI copyright issues based on a highly selective one-sided small group of genAI critics

We've been noting since last year that CA's link tax bill by Buffy Wicks would be a giveaway to the Alden Global hedge fund. To prove the point - last week, dozens of Alden-owned papers editorialized in support of the bill. 🤔 axios.com/2024/04/16/ald…

Absolutely horrible WSJ oped by Rep. Rodgers and Pallone about Section 230, the law that powered the Digital Revolution and expanded online opportunities for all citizens. They say they don’t want to break the internet or hurt free speech, but that is precisely what they will do

I see no future from a 230 sunset law other than massive Congressional waste and inefficiency, legal chaos and uncertainty, and lost economic and creative opportunities for ordinary Internet users and small companies. Thanks, guys. 8/8

RIP Susan Wojcicki. She was smart and vibrant and energetic and kind. It is hard to imagine her not being around and getting stuff done techcrunch.com/2024/08/09/for…

I can't express how unutterably tired I feel after reading this absurd 3rd Cir ruling. It denies TikTok 230 immunity for a claim that is (very thinly) framed as liability based on algorithmic promotion, instead of liability based on user content. 1/ cases.justia.com/federal/appell…
