Good to see guidance for ISVAs & IDVAs published today. This will help deliver consistent, high-quality support for victims. Also pleased to see much-needed guidance for Independent Stalking Advocates will be introduced next year. gov.uk/government/pub…

Farah Naz explains so powerfully why we needed to make this change. “When someone has caused deep harm or taken a life, appearing in court to hear the consequences is part of accountability. Opting out of that moment undermines the process entirely.” metro.co.uk/2025/05/08/wan…

In my work, I meet many victims, survivors and families, and my team and I often support them to connect with others and channel their pain and trauma into a powerful fight for change. What a privilege it has been to help Farah Naz, Jebina Islam and Ayse Hussein do exactly that.

Mothers are dissuaded from sharing disclosures of child sexual abuse (CSA) because there is a rise in cases where CSA allegations are reframed as parental alienation and the protective parent is at risk of losing their child. Why are the family courts struggling to identify CSA?

Great opportunity to hear from The Survivors Trust's London members. We discussed issues victims face in criminal & family courts, & the threat many small organisations face through lack of funding. I hope the Spending Review recognises the lifesaving support these vital orgs provide

Govt has inherited multiple crises in our criminal justice system, and I welcome the total £4.7 billion they are investing in expanding the prison estate. However, I am concerned that the measures on recalling prisoners may come at the expense of victims’ and public safety ⬇️

Bibaa & Nicole's family experienced the best & worst of the Met, & while I commend the investigating team, the failures of the Met were unacceptable & life-changing. Inspired by Mina Smallman's composure & eloquence. A must-watch 👇 sky.com/watch/bibaa-an… sky.com/watch/bibaa-an…

Great first meeting with Clair Kelland who starts in her new role as Metropolitan Police Commander for Public Protection. We discussed issues of police requests for third party material & concern over delays to charging decisions. Look forward to working together to drive improvements.

Encouraging meeting today with Metropolitan Police Federation and the Metropolitan Police Network of Women to discuss how the federation can provide better support to victims and witnesses within the police. Looking forward to continuing this positive dialogue.

Govt’s pilot to provide free transcripts of sentencing remarks to all rape & sexual offence victims ends on 28 May. This pilot was a huge achievement of the OpenJusticeForAll campaign, & while we will push for the pilot to continue & expand, any eligible victims can still apply ⬇️

Great to welcome WestMidsPCC Victim Advocate Natalie Queiroz MBE to discuss her vital new role improving the victim experience. We also spoke about her campaign to properly risk assess domestic abuse offenders before open prison release - an issue that needs urgent attention.

Thank you to Shabana Mahmood MP for recognising the bravery of these families. Honoured to have been able to support Jebina, Farah and Ayse in securing this vital change. May it end this cruel injustice for others — in the name of Sabina, Jan, Zara & Olivia.

The Sentencing Review may cause understandable concern for victims, with a significant shift away from short sentences, & early prison release for good behaviour. Government must ensure victims’ safety are at the heart of these reforms. My statement ⬇️ london.gov.uk/who-we-are/cit…

Urgent questions must be asked as to why this family court judge cannot be named - a judge found to have seriously abused their adopted children. Protecting a judge when children have been harmed will damage public trust and confidence. observer.co.uk/news/national/…

I welcome this vital step forward for survivors’ rights and open justice. Congratulations to Victims’ Commissioner London and all involved in securing this long-overdue reform, enabling free access to sentencing remarks for survivors of rape and sexual offences.

Under the Government’s Victims and Courts Bill, the Victims' Commissioner for England & Wales will gain new powers to use individual cases to spotlight systemic failures and advocate for reform. In London, I’ve been doing exactly that for years—with a strong track record of driving meaningful change ⬇️

Too often, sentencing outcomes are not clearly explained to victims — leaving many unsure what it really means. That’s why Govt’s news to extend free sentencing transcripts to rape victims is a win for our OpenJusticeForAll campaign. But, we must go further for more victims.

Delighted to see Matt Jukes announced as the new permanent Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Police. His committment to victims has long been clear, and I trust this will be central in the delivery of a New Met for London. I look forward to supporting him in this crucial work.
