From @‌looking.glass.math on IG: "1. Scaffolding metacognition 2. Mixing related factors (I do 5/10, 2/4, 3/5/6, 4/7/8, and 6/7/9) 3. Using hand signals in whole-group practice" (🧵 1/2)

I find when I introduce a game in whole group, it’s a hot commodity during playtime! Today these kids decided to play “Where’s the leprechaun?” together! (Someone hides him behind a word; players take turns reading words to guess where he is. Winner hides him next.)

Somewhere in some school today, some kids will go the entire day without a warm word or a soothing smile from an adult. Today's challenge? Make sure those aren't your kids & that's not your school. Doesn't cost us a thing. And the return on investment can't be measured.

An open-question: Should we avoid the term “background’ knowledge? This assumes that children must rely on experiences they either have had (or not). Wouldn’t it be more equitable to say 'building knowledge’? This assumes a shared experience for all students in your class.

Don't mistake parents' lack of participation for lack of care. Many face barriers that prevent them from attending school events. We asked parents and here are their responses: 🧵

Researchers at MIT have questioned whether SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound) actually work. They suggest we might get better outcomes if we make our goals FAST (frequently discussed, ambitious, specific and transparent) not SMART.

It's heartbreaking when a building filled with millions of dollars worth of degrees focuses more on where a kid comes from than the potential they carry. That kind of mindset creates its own trauma. #RuthlessEquity #StartWithTheCrown
