It's unsettling to hear Keir Starmer's deregulation plans today. Done wrong, this will mean fewer protections for nature when it urgently needs more. We support growth, we support the energy transition, but not at the expense of the natural world.

It seems to me that it will be necessary to see the growth of Nature as a prerequisite for economic growth (which needs to embrace measures of natural capital as well as GDP). This is potentially a very exciting new area of policy development in which the UK could lead the world.
