It really is crazy that we are all taught to write in the same robotic way. Schools need to start implementing different writing styles in the english curriculum. It is not fair to teach students to write the same then expect them to write different and stand out. #ENG101

CHAT is really helpful! By understanding how a piece of text falls into each of CHAT's 7 categories, we can better understand the genre and underlying message of the piece of writing. #eng101

I found how weird it was we were taught to do everything in such a specific way when really things are much more complex than that. The author talks about CHAT and how it's almost this thing that helps us think more about our writing and the processes that go into it. #eng101

Hi Jonathan Van Ness, writing professor here - my students are doing a unit on podcasting and Getting Curious (Bee episode) is their listening homework! We're talking about accessibility and multi-modality in podcasts - do you include episode transcripts? Thanks, love you and your work!

John says he doesn’t like tattoos and yet his whole chest is full of them. John wants to investigate the murder with Brian but when he comes, John isn’t as willing to help. Something doesn’t add up. #ENG101

The way the podcast uses phone calls, speaking, and reading emails shows different sides of the story. Its different hearing a story from a person who is actually from s town compared to a podcast host. #eng101

Is a disability really something that hinders a persons quality of life? Or is disability a social construct created by the "able bodies" who don't have the challenges that some individuals may have? #ENG101

Multi-modality can have some disturbing drawbacks. In S-town, not only do we hear what all the individuals say and think, but we can also see what they look(d) like. I still feel kinda strange looking a pictures of John B. and thinking to myself, "Wow, he's dead." #eng101

Before school, my sons watched Dr. Ford’s opening statements with me. Later, my 11 y/o asked why she had to keep repeating herself because she looked scared. I told him it’s because many men think they can do whatever they want with women’s words and bodies. #WhyWomenDontReport

The anger. That this woman would dare tell her story. This is frightening. I pray it’s the last, desperate gasps of a patriarchy that knows its time is up, but I’m worried about what will happen to this country in the meantime. Lord have mercy.

At the end she asks how it feels to take a foreign language for fun... pretty damn bad I got a D in high school Spanish #ENG101

I think something so powerful about slam poetry is how the writer presents themselves. Ariana Brown uses so much emphasis and body language to get her point across like her hand gestures. The way she also speaks shows how she feels about what has happened to her culture #eng101
