All young children in the UK will be offered a free chickenpox vaccine by the NHS from January next year. It will be given as two doses, at 12 and 18 months of age. A catch up campaign is planned for slightly older children so they don't miss out.

The UK has secured a £10bn deal to supply the Norwegian navy with at least five new Type 26 frigates. The government said the deal would support 4,000 UK jobs "well into the 2030s", including more than 2,000 at BAE Systems' Glasgow shipyards where the frigates will be built.

In his speech to The Labour Party conference, Keir Starmer said the government would scrap a commitment to get 50% of England's young people into university. Instead, the target would be changed to two-thirds of young people going to university or "gold standard apprenticeships".

From today, every GP practice in England will have to offer online appointment bookings throughout the day. The move is aimed at reducing the '8am scramble' to get through to practices on the phone. Surgeries will have to provide the service from 8am-6:30pm Mon to Friday.
