The obituary I wrote for my grandfather, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Shakeb, was published in the print edition of The Guardian today An inspirational scholar on Indian History, Islamic Arts, Urdu and Persian literature and manuscripts. What a priviledge to live with him all these years!

All the hurt, wounds and unkind words that have been hurled at you, they add up. They can get lodged in the crevices of your heart, dimming your shine and brilliance. Don’t let them stay there. Forgive and let go. Not easy but you must for your own peace of mind.

A few years ago, my late grandfather, Dr Ziauddin Shakeb, gave an interview on the Muslim Heritage of India for the Asia Wired programme on Islam Channel You can watch it here: youtu.be/4FHGNMVm-X0 (also picture of him in his majestic library at home where it was conducted)

Wycombe is my home. I went to school at Highcrest, I’ve been an active party member and led campaigns for Wycombe Labour 🌹. Now I am standing to represent my community in Parliament. #MahamidForWycombe

Today, on my late grandfather, Dr. Ziauddin Shakeb's birthday, I wanted to highlight one of his seminal works, the book 'Relations of Golkonda with Iran'. It's a fascinating insight into Indo-Persian diplomatic, ethnological and intellectual linkages in the 1500s-1600s!

I was incredibly disappointed to learn that I have not been longlisted to be Wycombe Labour 🌹's next parliamentary candidate. It is clear that the party is not interested in giving local BAME candidates the chance to make our case - none of us were longlisted. My full statement:

Making lots of dua for Pakistan 🇵🇰 right now. In the midst of the political antics, it’s the people that always suffer most. May Allah protect you all and safeguard you from chaos and corruption. Ameen

Never become indifferent to the suffering of the innocent. It’s how evil thrives and tyrants grow. Resist it with every fiber of your being. Use your voice in prayer and protest, and protect your heart from accepting this as normal.
