it is friday and the day before my birthday but i am dedicated to giving feedback on these final 11 of 80 student papers 💀

Have ppl found valid reasons for students wearing an AirPod in one ear during class, related to access or preferred learning environments? Possibly to provide background noise and limit random distracting sounds…? Or, can I more explicitly ask said students to remove them 😬

Motherhood is buying “fall scent” hand soap for your family to use and then going in the bathroom cabinet every time you use the bathroom to get a pump of old, unseasonable one out bc “fall scent” makes you queasy.

Again it is finals week and again I can’t not write individual notes on each of my students final projects. Yes, I have a detailed rubric. Yes, I still write feedback that they might not even read. 🙃

So I guess it’s actually now that the real imposter syndrome has set in? Now I finished the PhD? Now that I need to finish a draft for a solo-authored article? 🫠

I’m in the “I care so much and why don’t my students match what I’m bringing to the classroom” era and I know it’s unhealthy but I can’t get out of it. (I also know many logical reasons why they don’t so I guess I’m just doing this to myself). 🫠

This group of students who are always late for my 8am class don’t realize they could smooth things over if they just also brought me a coffee from the Starbucks they stop at on their way into the building. 😅🙃☕️

This semester of teaching was rough but I transitioned into summer work by watching (read: binging) all four seasons of Killing Eve and it was EXACTLY what I needed. So good!

Hey friends! What are your favorite dystopian texts, films, and other media to use in the classroom? My class theme is centered on digital activism in dystopic times so we’re engaging with both fiction and non-fiction (not any full books though).

Great start to our tournament season 2nd place finish at the CTW Fall Skeleton 12u division. We went 4-1-1 and lost 12-11 in 9 inning championship game. Girls played with so much heart and grit. Future is bright for this group!!
