One of the many amazing things about being a Music Teacher is the fluidity of the role. Today I went from teacher, to co-creator, to co-performer, to conductor. All through this the pupils grew and learnt, I grew and learnt, and we all grew and learnt together. Just awesome.

The 1st time I really felt confident; The 1st time I truly realised I was good at something; The 1st time I made meaningful friends; The 1st time I really travelled; The 1st time I knew what I wanted to do. The 1st time I met my wife. All of these happened while making music.

I was once asked to speak at an event celebrating the provision of Instrumental Music at a High School in Scotland. My talk was entitled, “My parents gave me a saxophone, and it changed my life”. That night, I shared 10 things learning the saxophone has taught me. Here they are:
