I think some people would swap their car for a bike if it didn’t mean experiencing the threat of vehiular manslaughter just for simply getting around on a bike. You can’t tell me that daily headlines of people being killed while biking don’t impact people‘s mobility choices.

2. The demand that individuals solve systemic problems caused by government policy, economic inequality etc is fundamental to neoliberalism. Neoliberalism denies the role of collective action and effective politics. It seeks to individuate both the blame and the solutions.

Sunak’s statement was obviously aimed at Tory MPs whose support he wants in a future leadership election. But if this callous treatment of people on low incomes - by a Chancellor who is a millionaire - is what will attract their support, they should be ashamed. /7

If you are a landlord in Detroit and you would like to collect rent than your property must be compliant with city building codes. That’s the law. And the legal aid attorneys in my courtroom are prepared to ensure that law is enforced.

The fact that many of us robed on the hottest day of the year and attended parliament to try and speak to MPs all day should tell you everything you need to know about the desperate state that the criminal bar is in.

If you read one thing this year, please let it be this post by Joanna Hardy-Susskind. It is without a shadow of the doubt the best thing that's ever appeared on this blog. It is just stupendously, heartbreakingly, achingly brilliant. thesecretbarrister.com/2022/07/21/gue…

I've always liked Tadej Pogačar's racing style, but I love him for his support of women's cycling and his fiancée Urska Zigart. I ran into him at the start today, so naturally here's an article: cyclingweekly.com/racing/tadej-p…

So there's a particular quirk of English grammar that I've always found quite endearing: the exocentric verb-noun compound agent noun. It appears in a definite, remarkably narrow period - not more than 150, 200 years - before dying out, leaving loads of legacy words in its wake.
