Let me try to explain DEI to those who don’t understand or are deliberately obtuse about it. This will be a few posts. In the 90s, I worked on tv in Norfolk, VA. I went to Miami to cover VA Tech in the Orange Bowl. We had to feed our reports from the Miami affiliate to VA. (1)

The producer at the Miami station helped me feed my reports back. He said, kindly, “Man, you are really good. I wish we had known about you when we had an open position last year.” If their parent company had a DEI effort, they likely may have known about me. (2)

Clearly, I was more than qualified for the position, based on his assessment of my work. DEI is about hiring QUALIFIED candidates that companies may overlook because their searches aren’t thorough enough. Don’t let anyone gaslight you about what DEI really means.

Much of the anti-DEI foolishness we are seeing right now is nothing more than thinly veiled racism and sexism. Full stop.
