No better way to spend my birthday than learning about preoperative medicine and talking about our case of preop AF of unknown duration at SPAQI

🧵regarding the 'figure-of eight' suture and also the 'pursestring' suture. We'll go over what they are for, some technical pointers, and errors that can be made while doing them. (1/ )

🧵for new residents and students: Over the last year, I've done 9 threads on different suture materials. Included here are links to each of these. I'll leave this 'pinned' for now. They are: Prolene, silk, Vicryl, PDS, Ethibond, Nylon, Monocryl, Chromic, and barbed sutures.

The results from our DEVICE trial are out in the NEJM . In this RCT, direct laryngoscopy was inferior to video laryngoscopy for first-pass success. In fact, it was so inferior that we had to stop the trial early after DSMB review due to the clear benefit of VL. This is the 🔨

What I hate about the 4Hs & 4Ts - they add to cognitive load, take you out of the PEA/asystole algorithm and people just start throwing them out there when we have ALREADY identified most of them. What if they were built into the A=>E reassessment of each cycle & into team roles?

Every year, there is a predictable spike in fatal car accidents, medical errors, & heart attacks. It’s estimated that there are thousands of excess deaths, a 1% increase in energy consumption, & billions of dollars in lost GDP. The cause? Daylight savings transitions. 🧵 1/
