Can you guess these two fly pests? Large one a Tabanid fly (Horse Fly) and the other a common house fly. #veterinaryentomology

Did you know ticks can be active on livestock in the winter. This is a less known tick that can get on livestock especially during cool winters in Oklahoma. Dermacentor albipictus aka Winter Tick.

Had a very important and informative conversation with my friend and fellow veterinarian Ted Yoho and AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) about disease epidemics and the importance of the One Health Approach.

Have you ever rolled over in bed to a dog lying right beside you? Well even in the winter your dogs need be protected from ticks especially if they sleep with you. By the way even the entomologists that studies ticks has pets that sleep in the same bed.

Do you notice what kind of external parasite just laid their eggs on this horse's leg? Horse bots are honey bee-sized flies that lay their eggs on the horses but its their larvae (bot) stage that cause the damage. #veterinaryentomology

Can you guess which tick is involved with the red meat allergy when this tick feeds on humans? Also, which two ticks pictured have been linked to anaplasmosis in cattle? It is important to know which ticks are involved in transmission of certain pathogens. #vetento

Girl hands me a marker. Tells me there’s a tick in it. I must have given her a perplexed look bc she says “Look, I had to improvise”. This is a proud #entomologistmom moment for me. We’ve all used some pretty strange things as a specimen holding device, right?

A great explanation of what is going on in the food supply chain. Dr. Lusk is always very insightful from both aspects of livestock markets and consumer behaviors.
