Forest Ent folks, we’ve got a dead oak tree in the yard with these beetles all over the fence behind it now. Also some parasitoids. Round exit holes. Any thoughts on an ID, and on whether these killed the tree or if they moved in after the fact?

1. The *minimum* conditions for malaria - competent mosquitoes and warm enough temperatures - are met in the southern U.S. even in the absence of climate change. We didn’t get rid of malaria here until 1949. This event is not inherently attributable to climate change.

Apropos of nothing, we have plenty of Anopheles mosquitoes in this country capable of transmitting Plasmodium and have, like, since forever

Marisol, a REEU student from UTRGV, presented her work on heartworm surveillance last week and then we celebrated with a lab lunch. It was great having her in the lab this summer!

Excited to announce that McDermott Lab PhD student, Blythe has just published her very first paper! Here we show that fluralaner has low contact efficacy against Culicoides, but potential for use as a systemic to control feeding midges parasitesandvectors.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
