Absolutely. Also differences between what it takes to get people into teaching, and what it takes to get them to stay. Pay matters more for the former, pupil behaviour the latter.

Autonomy is certainly important when it comes to intrinsic motivation, but the idea that structure is its antithesis is misconceived. A better line of thinking is: under what circumstances might structure either enhance or undermine autonomy and why?

Defending or attacking a school, strategy, person or technique by saying they are good or bad for "SEND children" is at best meaningless and at worst offensive.

Dzingai Mutumbuka, former Minister of Education from Zimbabwe, says when it comes to implementing ed policy: ‘Teachers are the agents of change. Without teachers changing their behaviour, you are implementing nothing’ #WWHGlobalEd24 STiR Education

Hugely appreciated the opportunity to talk behavioural science and teacher development ResearchED Belfast today. Well done to Mark Roberts and the team in delivering a great event. And I ran into my Year 9 French teacher!

Teacher time is so limited, it’s important to decide what is useful, what is illuminating, and what is “just interesting.” I think neuroscience often falls into the latter, but other things as well. Just like in teaching, coaches must sort the essential from the “nice to know.”

Exactly this. Psychologically speaking, autonomy is about approval of one’s own actions. That can happen at any end of the ‘rules/freedom’ spectrum. And why ‘should X have autonomy’ is almost always the wrong question.

Abusive bosses don't drive performance. They undermine it. 471 studies, 149k people, 36 countries: in aggressive workplaces, we do poorer work, collaborate less, and shirk more. Incivility breaks confidence and breeds resentment. The best way to get results is to show respect.

Far from 'transforming' education, the emergence of AI is underlining why human teachers matter. To put it crudely, kids respond to people not screens. Just watched my daughter interacting with an AI tutor. She lost interest after 15 mins. Incredible to think that her classroom
