Bought this guy for $45 from the fellow who made him in 1999. Bought maybe a dozen more masks from the same gentleman over the years. A fantastic woodworker from Guerrero who would travel to CDMX to sell his wares.

hey Apple it's really weird that Siri gives you the option "Horario" to finalize an event in your calendar in Spanish. I think this is just a bad direct translation of the noun form of "Schedule" instead of using the more appropriate verb "Programar".

Love it when DHL U.S. holds up a shipment inexplicably, then fails to add dry ice after requested, destroying some irreplaceable biological samples and then refuses to refund our payment. Good advertising for FedEx

Beautiful collaboration led by Tetsuji Kakutani and Sayuri Tsukahara on unravelling the fine changes that can make a centrophobic TE become centrophilic and vice versa! The devil is in the details for these TEs. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Postdoc jobs in the Gaut lab! Brandon isn't on here, so I can be frank: he is fantastic. I did my postdoc with him and he is not only an amazing scientist but one of my favorite humans. I would have happily stayed in his lab forever if that was feasible. recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF08999

Talking Biotech 459 - where did the key domestication mutations in corn come from? Were they present in resident gene pools waiting to be selected, or new mutations? I discuss with Jeffrey Ross-Ibarra and his student Regina Fairbanks. @aspb ASHS UF IFAS Solutions share.transistor.fm/s/bed2ffa6

Reason number 4,517 (yes I'm counting) why MaizeGDB is so awesome and we're so lucky as a community to have these folks. Also a great example of maize community sharing. UNPUBLISHED data already up on the community database showing conservation scores across the maize genome.

In #GENETICS, Elli Cryan, Daniel J Kliebenstein, Jeffrey Ross-Ibarra, & colleagues identified sites under positive selection, estimated the timing of gene & loci divergence, and discovered a siRNA-mediated mechanism of silencing the reproductive barrier in #maize: buff.ly/cQFkzfP
