So after a proposal gets sunk into the morass of what is and is not generalizable knowledge. Some good news is that in 10 months this little one will hopefully be on the ground and looking for a botanical name beginning with L. Thinking Liatris, ideas?

In assessing GWA in species with population structure, should potential for transgressive segregation or constraining selection to hide signal be assumed or ignored? Asking because GWA can't directly provide evidence of potential for constraint or transgression to foul up GWA.

Why do I feel like most science is similar to the idea of schrodinger's cat. The result of an experiment is the result but it becomes applied, fundamental or basic depending on the intention of the observer.

One of my favorite parts of the sociology of science is that almost no scientist really knows who you are, what you can do or know. Yet almost every scientist is amazingly confident in their opinion of you and its accuracy.

It is interesting listening to transit, biking and other discussions on here when living a mile from town means no access to services for water, sewer, gas or hardline internet. That is a foundation for the rural/urban divide. Completely different govt service availability,

Lots of excitement around about research showing recurring convergent evolution of a plant trait across 100s of millions of years using the same gene family. So we are all talking about the past 30 years of work on cyanogenic glycosides and CYP79s, right?

Late summer means pasta sauce of basically just sweet Italian frying peppers and home grown garlic. I need to find an olive oil pressing facility to make it all home grown.

The cynical guide to science rule 3781: never admit that your previous idea was wrong and that you learned something phenomenal by disproving yourself, instead simply ghost your own work and say you learned something phenomenal.

What universities need is a training to tell us what all the trainings have taught us. Like a committee of committees but a training of trainings.

Regulatory networks prevent the linear progression of stochastic noise. Thus, Mendelian randomization cannot prove or even parse causality in eQTL or other studies.

With all the efforts to make writing social, is it weird that I prefer isolation with fast music? I seem to type with the rhythm. Other people just distract even if perfectly quiet.

Random aside for scRNAseq studies in Arabidopsis, old localization studies actually indicate multiple types of myrosinase idioblasts and multiple types of glucosinolate biosynthetic cells.

this was a fantastic seminar. Likely one of the easiest decisions for a tenure committee. Can't think of any candidate more successful going for promotion. Well done, Dior Kelley !

Postdoc position alert - in Alex Cant贸-Pastor's NEW lab at Yale. While we will miss him greatly, a new postdoc will be sure to benefit from his mentorship and will get to participate in a very exciting project at the intersection of development and immunity. Alex Cant贸-Pastor
