Mike Greenwell was easily my favorite Red Sox growing up. He was a great hitter, fielder, and had the best nickname! RIP Gator.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Red Sox Hall of Famer Mike Greenwell. “The Gator” spent his entire career in a Red Sox uniform and was a beloved fixture of Fenway and Fort Myers. He gave so much to Lee County and Sox Nation. We send our love to the Greenwell family.

People forget how good Mike Greenwell was in 1988. Only Canseco had a better year (steroids enhanced). Greenwell was above Kirby Puckett, Dave Winfield, Dennis Eckersley, Wade Boggs, Alan Trammell, Paul Molitor, teammate Dwight Evans, Frank Viola, Robin Yount et all. RIP 🕊⚾️

Sad to note the passing of one of my Red Sox guys, Mike Greenwell was just 62. A good guy,fierce hitter and a solid interview. When he was a rookie, I got him to show us how to tame a wild, if inflated, gator, since that was his nickname. Plus this awesome Ned Martin highlight.
