GW4 Alliance was pleased to sign the letter organised by CaSE regarding the DSIT settlement. The scale of the extra tucked in costs being discussed would be devastating for U.K. research, development and innovation and our economic growth sciencecampaign.org.uk/analysis-and-p…

A strong R&D environment is vital to boost productivity and drive economic growth. While difficult decisions need to be made during any budget, we have signed this joint letter to the Chancellor to highlight the dangers of squeezing innovation in the upcoming Budget.

With the budget in two weeks, we've joined CaSE and the UK R&D sector in urging the UK Govt to commit to continued investment in R&D. Cuts to the research and innovation budget would limit ambitions for health and growth news.cancerresearchuk.org/2024/10/18/can…

Ben Johnson Joseph Ewing Andrew Mackenzie Douglas Dowell Martin Smith Monica Dahiya Am I looking at this too simplistically? Cost of association was due to rise in 2025, DSIT allocation for Horizon has risen by approx. £0.5bn, and the overall up £1.4bn from projected baseline 24/25. Does that mean any hit shouldn't be as bad as the £800mn-£1bn predicted?

Martin Smith (@martinrsmith) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There's even a small increase in the R&D budget for next year - from £20bn to £20.4bn - and an increase to DSIT's share of that. It looks like the sector's worst fears about how the lumpiness of costs relating to Horizon and the guarantee will be budgeted for have been allayed

innovation happens at the intersection between sectors💡 but researchers can struggle to make the leap, and it can feel like a risk to try something new we talk about this in our Future-proofing UK Health research report and this award helps to mitigate these challenges⬇️
