Today I watched as my colleague, Senator Alex Padilla, was shoved and handcuffed by Trump officials. I immediately went to the Senate floor to respond. This is what I said:

What happened to Senator Alex Padilla is disgraceful and un-American. “This is not simply an assault on Senator Padilla. This is not an assault on Democratic senators. This is an assault on the rule of law. This is an assault on our democracy.” —Sen. Chris Murphy 🟧

PADILLA: “Saying I lunged is a lie, but that’s par for the course for this administration… I was behind the cameras listening, and at a certain point hearing Noem say they had to rescue LA from the Governor and Mayor was too much to take. So I raise my voice to ask a question.”
