Idolatry (worshipping the wrong things) aggravates disorder in the soul, which leads to disorder in the family, which leads to disorder in the community, which leads to disorder in the polis; so, a polis dominated by idolatry will, to that extent, be disordered and dysfunctional.

If laws are based on political theory, which is based on ethics, which is based on philosophical anthropology, which is based on metaphysics and theology, then how could a polis get its metaphysics and theology largely wrong without disastrous consequences back up the chain?
