Augustine: "the good and true mediator showed that it is sin that is evil, not the substance or nature of the flesh, which, along with a human soul, could be assumed and maintained without sin, and could be laid aside at death and changed into something better by resurrection."

Idolatry (worshipping the wrong things) aggravates disorder in the soul, which leads to disorder in the family, which leads to disorder in the community, which leads to disorder in the polis; so, a polis dominated by idolatry will, to that extent, be disordered and dysfunctional.

If laws are based on political theory, which is based on ethics, which is based on philosophical anthropology, which is based on metaphysics and theology, then how could a polis get its metaphysics and theology largely wrong without disastrous consequences back up the chain?

I said in 2011 Trump was the most electable GOPer. I still think he is. But he has revealed himself as a wildly unprincipled authoritarian.
