This is an excellent blog from Joe Hallgarten, another important contribution to the debate from Forum Strategy. A powerful assertion of the importance of local collaboration beyond the boundaries of the MAT - my view is that there should be a formal duty on MATs to collaborate.

The Cultural Education Plan is unlikely to be a game changer, says Joe Hallgarten. It's time for a new body along the lines of the Youth Sports Trust to champion the arts in schools Joe Hallgarten

This photo by Steve Conlan - yes, of me - at the poll tax demo in 1990, has kind of blown me away. Wasn't aware of it until published in The Times and The Sunday Times last week. thetimes.co.uk/article/d27261…

Mel Ainscow provided useful insight when I asked Schools Week to publish this article last October. I think we need to embrace regional/city mayoral structure in all of this schoolsweek.co.uk/to-be-inclusiv…

Writing article for Arts Professional on a new Youth Arts Trust, and distracted by a random policy idea. Why don't we heavily tax any mark-ups put on basic prices of cultural/sporting events (VIP packages etc) and hypothecate funding to pay for a new arts offer for children? Thangam Debbonaire

Someone has emailed to say that they cannot read any non-fiction in their Y1 class unless it is linked to the Y1 curriculum. (by Ofsted advisor!) For example, children cannot read about parts of a plant because it comes later. Is this an actual rule?

This is one of those shocking but true statistics. Imagine, 4 million adults every year not getting a learning opportunity. The damage, lost opportunity is enormous

great afternoon facilitating first set meeting with teachers in Slough, supported by Artswork. Are there other sets out there for teachers, or are we pioneers? Like action research, Much bastardised term, but when it's pure it can be powerful.
