Our food systems are about far more than plant-based is good, animal-derived is bad. We are in grave danger of reducing a most complex of issues to sound bytes and who can shout them the loudest. As with cotton for clothing, it is not all good. Ditto with vegetables.

New data from RenewableUK and Solar Energy UK on the growth in YUK energy storage is remarkable. Again, one of the many advantage of clean tech is it can be deployed very fast when the stars align. businessgreen.com/bg/news/306566…

Some points on #agriculture and #climate to take away from IEEP - Institute for European Environmental Policy: - Each poss pathway has trade-offs and co-benefits - Industry-wide action needed but no single solution - Productivity ↑ and tech are insufficient to reach 1o5C w/out consumption change and lots more trees

Having read tons of food memoir, historically most of it has been the stuff of Eurocentric fantasty, ex. I moved to Europe to eat well/go to cooking school. It's changing, but slowly. And we have Michael W. Twitty, who won a Beard for his food memoir, which is anything but that.

Interesting piece on the use of field trials in PhD research. Perhaps part-time PhD's would help? Even working on a 20month long trial in a 3 year PhD with two cover crop periods was a challenge....but still learnt valuable lessons and new practical insights.

I couldn’t disagree more with ⁦George Monbiot⁩. As he himself said in 2014, “we are trying to make a case to people who just don’t care about the natural world” - Attenborough makes people care. If we have failed to capitalise on this, that’s on us theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Important observation by Climate Change Committee ChiefExecCCC speaking at Westminster Energy Forum: "Main thing we've learnt in last 10 years in the UK is that we've successfully cut emissions, grown our economy and it's been cheaper than we thought" #climate #COP24

This is a terrific, long, wonky, constructive, respectful thread about beef & grazing & meat & climate & land use by a passel of very knowledgeable and insightful people.
