This whole thread, but especially this. I (think I) used to give more interesting, inspiring career advice. Now I’m just a broken record: “get everything in writing.”

"Ask for what you need, but nothing more" is the practical response to the "ask for more" people who believe that women's negotiation skills are their career roadblock. The complicated answer is that sometimes, when you ask for more, you get less.

Just reading this gives me goosebumps, and it was 19 yrs ago when it happened. At the time there were no policies. I asked the dept to come up with a policy. It took them 3 years to decide that "a committee would decide case by case". By then, I was delivering the second child.

💯. Women can't win when it comes to discrimination. If we speak out about abuses, we're accused of "airing dirty laundry," or even bullying + slander. If we don't tell people about what's happening, we won't have the evidence to fight back. All we can do is choose our fighter.

Pregnancy on the Tenure Track: A really helpful thread with very practical tips! E.g. Get nation-wide health insurance just in case you need medical care when you're giving a talk out of state. Thank you Jialan Wang for sharing the pro-tips!

We are hiring ~2 adjuncts to teach in-person (mostly) principles of micro classes for the Spring semester! This is great for PhD students who want to finish up their dissertations in Bozeman or for someone who wants a longer-run NTT gig! jobs.montana.edu/postings/39835
