A Swedish word for cramming for exams is korvstoppning, or “stuffing sausages.” A German version is büffeln, or “to buffalo.” There’s also a colloquial (and crass) German term for memorising facts that are forgotten right after the exam: Bulemielernen. It means “bulimia learning”

A tip for politicians & senior govt leaders that I don't expect them to follow: don't make public comments about decisions made by judges like bail, acquitting, sentencing etc or otherwise interfere in independence of justice system. You may be compelled to apologize someday

Remember Umar Zameer's case the next time a politician like Pierre Poilievre or Doug Ford says we need 'jail not bail' as a default

There's a presumption of innocence in our constitution for good reason

P.S. ~80% of people in Ontario jails are awaiting trial

I’m gonna say that I knew Alex Heine and Nader R Hasan before they were famous. Just don’t ask them to confirm. ;)

So many lessons to learn from them. But at the top is how to litigate and win with class.

Rest easy tonight. You did good work.

Nadar, now everyone knows what we all already do - that you are an absolute mensch. It’s beautiful to see a moment that is usually deeply private expose the heart of the relationship between a defence lawyer and their client. This is why we do it.

While Canada’s proposed grocery code of conduct differs from the Australian and U.K. counterparts that influenced it, there may be lessons to draw from those frameworks toronto.citynews.ca/2024/04/21/aus…
