My nephew is a product designer at a small NYC startup, graduated in 2021 w/ design degree. Doesn’t know senior designers, trying to understand design careers.

What career advice would you give your past self / designers just getting started?

Didn’t think it would take a new version of CLRS to get me tweeting again but here we are. V3 in grad school taught me so many formative lessons, I can still spot that mobile anywhere.

Fulfilling my dream of removing time from the menu bar (in part to avoid looking at right hand corner of my screen during meetings, distracting participants) but still being able to track time.

We just lost our first client as a result of the executive order on diversity training. I'm sure it won't be our last. Seems it's having exactly its intended impact. I wish I could say I feel proud to be on the right side of history, but I just feel scared.

2015: interviewed at @etsy, got this tote.

2020: decide to tie dye everything in desperation to keep our daughter entertained. converted the iron/ironing board to craft area for patches (bc who needs to iron anymore??)

Turned out pretty well, TIL tie dye tech has advanced.

I think about this a lot. 😭 RIP RGB, your impact will continue to be felt for generations.
