Every superintendent and school board member should read this article. A decade of toughening teacher evaluations and tying it to standardized tests have shown no positive impact on student learning. It has only decreased morale. Stop the madness. edweek.org/teaching-learn…

We hear it from students all the time: ā€œ.com websites are bad. .edu and .org websites are good, unless it’s Wikipedia.ā€ These misconceptions can lead students dangerously astray. A thread on the problem and lesson ideas to use with your students. 🧵

I voted early and then picked up my petitions to run for school board. I believe in public schools. I believe in supporting administrators and teachers so they can support students and families. Kids first. Always. #jennsmitley4schoolboard

Re-humanizing education means seeing teachers as human. All humans deserve grace, compassionate care, and respect. If the goal is to re-humanize education, we must give our teachers these things.

Told my teen to email her project partner when she didn’t have their number. Got the teen look of disdain and was told ā€œno one checks email.ā€ So how are teens with no cell phones staying in the loop since landlines are a thing of the past and email apparently isn’t an option?

I loved using standards based report cards at the lower elementary level. Students were able to show their growth in specific skills throughout the year, and conferences with parents about student successes and concerns were much more clear cut.

This made me laugh, and I am old. Teenage me thought this was the perfect bed. Toasty warm sleeping with all of my favorite books within reach. And the hidey hole underneath for extra storage! Perfection. šŸ˜‚

There’s a special place in heaven for certain ppl in schools: 1. Middle school teachers 2. Pleasant receptionists 3. KG teachers who have 20 kids reading by the end of the yr 4. Custodians who clean baseboards & take the time to talk to students What are some others?

A2) I love inquiry-based learning! In middle school, I often find students are resistant to this type of learning at first— asking questions about our content asks more of them. So I start by teaching them how to ask questions. We use this chart I made! #sschat

I've been using #ChatGPT to write original stories about my students to expose them to new vocabulary words each week. They read the stories for morning work on Monday and answer vocab questions using context clues. It's been a hit! #eduprotocols #teachertwitter #edtech

Early voting has started, and the election is April 1st. Let me know if I can drop a small yard sign off later this week once the worst of the wind is past. I also have a few large signs that I need to put in high traffic areas. Thank you for your support!
