Left unsaid in this article: Guards in upstate prisons, whose politics tend to skew MAGA, would probably fawn over Trump and give him daily foot baths. nytimes.com/2024/04/23/nyr…

Right or wrong, lack of family support in court is one reason judges may set unaffordable bail and condemn a person to jail without a conviction. Other people. Not him, I know.

Serious Q: When do we get to say whether the housing package in the budget 'decreases' my market-rate rent, as so many have promised?

This is a perfect example of how there is a bipartisan climate denial consensus. Republicans are worse and that matters, but humanity deserves “Target.”

Just in: The feds are threatening to sue NYC if city vehicles do not stop parking on sidewalks and crosswalks in ways that 'impede the access of people with disabilities to pedestrian pathways,' if you want to talk about an actual ADA lawsuit.

I spent a month last year empaneled on a grand jury in New York, reviewing multiple cases per day.

What struck me was the severity with which New York prosecutes low-income people accused of petty retail theft. 🧵

It is very difficult to overstate the significance of an Ivy League school like Columbia inviting the NYPD onto campus to arrest students. Private schools usually try as hard as possible to handle disciplinary issues in house instead of involving off-campus police.

I’m not sure what the Columbia students were arrested for, but I heard NYPD threatening trespass charges. Trespass is not a bail eligible offense under New York law thanks to bail reform, so make sure you all help us protect it!

Expanding the use of a racist criminal legal system to address hate in our society is just backwards. Same goes for valuing some victims above others based on their job.

Tbh I can’t say whether this is bad politics but it’s definitely bad policy.
