A great jurist has died: Martin Feldman, U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He would have celebrated his 88th birthday on Friday. Born in St. Louis. Tulane and Tulane Law School. Clerked for John Minor Wisdom. Appointed to the bench in 1983. RIP.

I spent the day reporting in Rolling Fork, Miss. I was too distracted by talking to people and scrambling to find reception to file to take any halfway decent photos. Seeing the devastation was staggering. But hearing people’s stories was, for me, the biggest gut punch.
