North Carolinian. @NationBuilder guy. Proudly nonpartisan but always on the side of democracy, freedom, and justice. Opinions my own, obviously.

This is so stupid. For starters there are protests over domestic arrests all the time. But also if the feds were doing mass raids of workplaces to jail people for unpaid parking tickets there would def be protests over that as well. Proportionality matters in enforcement.

Beautiful clip of Brian Wilson and George Martin discussing ‘God Only Knows’. I love Brian’s enthusiasm when he thinks George is making the song better. ‘I can’t believe this is happening!’

President Trump has cited the chief of the LAPD when it comes to bypassing Gov. Newsom and deploying the National Guard. But Chief Jim MCDonnell tells me tonight, "We’re nowhere near a level where we would be reaching out to the governor for the National Guard."

Britt, Here’s what Noem said: “We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country." That’s a statement of intent of a coup, to “liberate” a state from legally elected

This is so, so irresponsible. You know exactly what you're doing by leaving the original post up unedited and dropping this in the replies. Disgusting stuff.

It's a great idea, and if the DNC embraces it, they should be applauded for giving up some of their control of the nominating process in favor of trusting their voters. And if/when they do it, I hope it's the tipping point for RCV becoming the nationwide standard.

Proud to finally have this out in the world and be able to share what we've been up to. We need more people to run for elected office at every level – and the hardest part is getting capable, decent people who don't think of themselves as political to do it. I believe we can.

Big decisions don't happen overnight, and nominating someone to run for office isn't always a call to run right now – it's planting a seed. It's a small action that could be the start of something big – for your nominee, and for your community. runforoffice.org/nominate

Ppl with real experience in civil service running for office is a good thing. What jumps out though: 60% are running for Congress! Nothing wrong with that, but indicative of how winnable local & state races tend to get overlooked by qualified candidates. nytimes.com/2026/02/11/us/…

A far-too-rare example (in my home state NC!) of cross-partisan collaboration to lower barriers for first-time and under-resourced candidates for elected office. The admin side of running a campaign should never be harder than it has to be. #ncpol wakeweekly.com/news/guiding-p…

It's easy to fixate on national politics and forget that the leaders who often have the greatest impact on our lives are at the local level. Today's a great day to think about running in your community - or to encourage an everyday leader you admire to run!

Good Monadnock Ledger-Transcript op-ed from a recently-elected selectman in Lyndeborough NH whose toughest opposition was a write-in vote for Mickey Mouse. Even officials who theoretically benefit see uncontested elections creating a "slow erosion of local government." ledgertranscript.com/2026/03/31/unc…

I come from a family that has a deep love for books and libraries. My aunt was a career librarian, and my grandparents even invented a new card catalog system for their own books (seriously!) Partnering with EveryLibrary on this was a special kind of honor and privilege.
