If ministers think a 10% civil service staff or budget cut is going to be delivered by AI or digital, they need to explain how that’s going to happen - that’s not the reality. As I told Sky News, these tools may play a role but they’re not going to deliver savings like these.

Pleased to be able to talk to House of Lords Home-based Working Committee today about our research into the Govt’s 60% office attendance mandate- workforce policy should be driven by evidence and the needs of each employer, team and individual. A one size fits all approach doesn’t make sense and doesn’t work

A big shout out to all the UK House of Commons staff who are also working and ensuring MPs have all the support and information they may need as this Bill goes through all its stages until Royal Assent is granted.

I’ve read a lot of articles on working from home over the last few years. Some thoughtful, some less so, some rabid and then there’s this. A new genre.

FDA Assistant General Secretary Lauren Crowley tells BBC Yorkshire that plans to develop civil service careers outside of London are welcome, but warns the government to ensure they don't appear second class compared to those based in Whitehall.

The House will need to be clear on what it won’t be able to provide going forward- be that services supporting MPs to do their vital role representing constituents and holding the Govt to account, or those which ensure the future of the building as a safe and accessible workplace

This important intervention by HMCPSI highlights many of the same issues discussed in our recent report, including their recommendation calling for increased investment for RASSO prosecutors. We are pleased that the CPS has accepting these recommendations. Our report found

As I told Kate McCann the civil service has the lowest sickness rates in the public sector & the rates dropped last year. There is no evidence to back up accusations of laziness. Most civil servants deal with the public which can lead to higher rates of short term illness.

Good to see a government department push back at some of the ill-informed attacks, and with sense of humour as well. More of this please.

As I told Nick Ferrari, are Reform UK really saying that their government would come in and sack 20,000 civil servants and recruit 20,000 more and test them for their 'belief' in Reform policies? This is a completely impractical way to think about complex policy issues.

A race to the bottom on pensions will only worsen the crisis we face in our public services, with the civil service already unable to compete on attracting & retaining talent. Reforming public services takes investment in people, skills & tech, which Reform need to recognise if

I really struggle with this approach from the Opposition. What is it they’re saying? That the civil service shouldn’t try to treat staff fairly? Do they think in an organisation of half a million people that just happens by itself? It’s just click bait, headline-chasing nonsense.

You’re right Rupert. Paying pensions, supporting our armed forces, collecting the tax that funds our NHS & public services - all of which your constituents rely on every day. If you have any issues with the policies they implement, make sure you raise it with elected ministers.

Transforming public services will not happen by trotting out tired old tropes about the civil service or sticking your finger in the air and setting the size of the civil service based on what it was a decade ago. This is not the approach of a serious govt, its an
