Arizona is on track to have a record number of fatal wrong-way crashes this year, according to Dept. of Public Safety statistics. ADOT says their new camera systems have detected hundreds of wrong-way drivers since the first ones were installed in 2018.

In the extreme 110+ degree heat, Phoenix Fire Dept. crews hiked a mile up Camelback Mountain's Cholla Trail, after a 49yo hiker overheated and needed help. The woman, a traveling nurse from the Midwest, was treated at the trailhead for dehydration.

Firefighters pushed a gurney up the trail at Papago Butte in 114 degree heat midday. The Phoenix crew was called to help a hiker (woman in her 20s) who's now in the hospital. She only made it 1/4 of a mile in before developing heat-related symptoms.

It's a 2-HOUR wait at the border crossing at Lukeville, AZ (from Rocky Point / Puerto Penasco). Much of the staff that processes vehicles was sent to help the Border Patrol with migrants.

The fire off the I-10 in Avondale flared up tonight. No businesses or homes threatened. It's the 3rd time in 3 weeks we've seen a brush fire in the river bottom here.

Right now: several homes & buildings are burning along US60 near Wickenburg, AZ. Injuries unknown. Evacuations ordered along a 2mile stretch of highway. Air tankers making final drops before sunset.

After dozens of campers got sick, the Havasupai Tribe in the Grand Canyon is hiring staff to disinfect the campground’s composting toilets. The clinic in Supai is also open to campers who fall ill. The Tribe says a gastrointestinal illness is going around in northern AZ.

Another wildfire sparked near Apache Junction, AZ, closing a state highway and the Old West tourist attraction Goldfield Ghost Town. Firefighters working in 115 degree heat.
