Half of GitHub is struggling to run the 7B LLaMA model on their desktop GPUs, meanwhile MacBooks can run the 13B model without breaking a sweat thanks to their Unified Memory Architecture. Code here: github.com/jankais3r/LLaM…

I added a short comparison table of LLaMA_MPS versus Georgi Gerganov’s llama.cpp implementation. If you only care about speed, go for cpp. If you care about heat/battery/power efficiency, MPS still comes out on top.

I think we can call it shut on 'Open' AI: the 98 page paper introducing GPT-4 proudly declares that they're disclosing *nothing* about the contents of their training set.

This. Google just quietly re-started its work on Maven, creating "AI" drone targeting+surveillance tech for the US military after protest killed the contract 5 years ago. I've heard crickets in response, even as the millionth "sorry GPT isn't a person" oped floats across my TL.

Been thinking how to articulate this… if you need to put censoring guardrails around your application because it can’t consider cause and effect or work with others to set up ethical boundaries it can also question for potential harm… Maybe your tool isn’t ready for society.

OpenAI is playing both sides of the regulation game and people are beginning to notice. Handing over advanced model checkpoints to Microsoft so they can be rushed into production while telling journalists we need regulation to pull the ladder up on competition.

Everyone’s talking about ChatGPT plugins, GPT-4 AGI sparks and I can only think about one thing: OpenAI has fooled us all. From non-profit open-source AI lab untethered from shareholders’ interests to the opposite in 8 years: closed-source, for-profit, fully corporate

Gotta love how Apple removed the capability of 3rd party apps to purge the cached system data without a) offering a 1st party solution to the problem, or b) fixing the behavior in the first place…
