Slightly off the “brief” for this weeks trip but caught my eye being a #Loyals officer. 2Lt Alfred Charles Ransdale’s inscription reads of him taking up arms to the nations call all the way from Argentina 🇦🇷. #LNLR #WW1 #FWW #HagleDumpCemetery Commonwealth War Graves LancsInfantryMuseum Laura Elizabeth

OTD 28/4/1920: John Thorpe, 1/5th The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. The last dated casualty in #SusannahKnight #WW1 #ChorleyMemorialAlbum. An end, but Susannah was going to make each life lost count.

The old #Somme battlefields were liberated around this time in September 1944. This photo was taken by a British soldier as the Thiepval Memorial was liberated. “We were entering the battlefields of our father’s war” as one veteran put it. #WW1 meets #WW2.
