Just to give you an idea of the atmosphere at the Schools Matinee performance @RoyalOperaHouse of Magic Flute and what it means to us all, performers and the primary school children attending. These were the curtain calls! We need more music in schools!!!

Head teachers across the nation feel utterly insulted by the letter landing in their in-boxes on a Friday afternoon from the education secretary. This hasn’t landed well. The anger is palpable.

🧵Just wanted to do a thread of my favourite Conservative lecterns over the last few years and their 3 word slogans. At number 1 is Suella Braveman with her campaign to hit lefty lawyers where it hurts by banning overnight oats.

"If we – public servants who came into a once great profession on behalf of children and young people - aren’t standing up and fighting for #education, who is?" Why a national strike is the only option left, writes Geoff Barton in his blog here: bit.ly/41MONpP

Just a thought. It would be great if the government would put the same amount of effort into resolving the pay dispute - eg perhaps talking to education trade unions - as they do into writing these defensive and misleading blogs. As I say, just a thought. buff.ly/3oCoe8p

My youngest son is in Year 6. He’s called Innis. He’s never seen his name in print Until he opened his SATs paper today! He said he felt ā€˜a bit discombobulated’.

I had the extraordinary pleasure of watching a brilliant lesson today. No tricks, no gimmicks. 100 minutes of deep subject knowledge, naturally brilliant pedagogy and 28 captivated, engaged, hard-thinking Year 10 students. Amid the noise and the nonsense, it was balm.

There was an influx of applicants and recruits into ITT in England last month, but it remains highly likely that targets for most secondary subjects will be missed this year (latest forecast below) 🧵 on the details...

The ever changing Pennine light, depending upon the season of the year and time of day, was a favourite subject of Peter Brook. In ā€˜Monday - Swaledale Sunset’ the low evening light renders the drystone walls black, creating a striking contrast with the white snow-covered fields.

As so many others have said, this education blog from Southgloshead - about the way we were, the way we are, the way we might be - is compelling. Thanks for writing it. buff.ly/3uLa5ZG

What a terrible loss. Sir Tim was the best of us. At a time when so much in education seems dark, his humanity and hope shone bright.
