Happy #NationalDogDay! FDR's beloved Scottish Terrier Fala was a constant companion, traveling with him on trips, attending important meetings, and even inspiring a famous political speech. Fala's playful personality and close bond with FDR made him a celebrity in his own right.

31 August 1900. Coca Cola went on sale in Britain for the 1st time. It was first sold in chemist shops as Cola Syrup, an over-the-counter dietary supplement for an upset stomach. It was not until the 1920s that the bottled version became generally available in the UK.

Wonderful to listen to #LastNightOfTheProms yesterday. At times amusing, at times quite moving. A challenge to find it since #BBC has *blocked* BBC Sounds in Canada 🇨🇦. I miss the inimitable host Petroc Trelawny #proms

During the Battle of Arnhem (1944), Kate ter Horst opened her home to 250 wounded British paratroopers. As bombs fell, the ‘Angel of Arnhem’ cared for them. Her medals hang alongside those of other heroes of the Battle of Arnhem in the Airborne Museum Hartenstein in Oosterbeek.🙏

The Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge is the last surviving original Battle of Britain Group Operations Room. It is preserved as September 15 1940, one of the fiercest days of aerial combat of the entire campaign. Winston Churchill was there that day, watching from overhead.

Jared Isaacman NASA On the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 flight, Frank Borman told me that it bothered him as to the orientation of the picture. He said the crew interpreted the Earth sliding around the side of the moon. He gave permission to all to rehang any picture in its “proper” orientation.

Carol of the Bells in Kyiv subway. Voices of the Embassies of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom came together to perform Shchedryk in the Kyiv metro as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. Thankful to everyone who stands with us!

Kyiv is celebrating Christmas. Residents of the capital gathered for caroling on St. Michael’s Square. I’m genuinely so happy that at least part of our country can gather like this - all thanks to the people defending us this Christmas.
