A tag-team effort with @CleClinicLCM/CWRU Public Health classmates + biostat gurus @AvaCongFan & Julia Joo, MD, MPH was accepted at #APHA2022! We used data from NIS to find predictors of CLABSI in patients with hematological malignancies. Findings may help tailor AMS strategies.

Read and explore this rich interactive of 20 *million* research articles from PubMed, a project we're releasing today with Rita González Márquez @ritagonmar.bsky.social and Dmitry Kobak. It's a *beautiful* embedding structure, a fascinating, complete corpus. Some highlights (thread) static.nomic.ai/pubmed.html

Proud to share Jesse Fajnzylber and my work on nosocomial CDI JointMeeting. Top notch mentorship from Abhishek Deshpande of @CleClinicLCM. Not pictured: fan-girling over ID idol Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH’s talk about public health data integration at the CDC during COVID 🤩

One of my favorite papers in recent years included this diagram. It shows the impact of controlling for three different types of variables: confounders, colliders, and mediators. With confounders, control is good. With the others, you ruin your result by controlling.

🧵regarding the Bovie, which is one of the most commonly used tools in surgery. I have decided to reorganize my Bovie content into something that makes more sense, which will require multiple 🧵. This first one will cover the very basics and is geared toward students. (1/ )

Take-home messages 1. The ADAPT-Sepsis RCT will spark a debate regarding the use of PCT to shorten antibiotic courses in hospitalized critically ill pts with suspected sepsis. PCT should NOT be used to decide whether a "septic-looking" patient needs to start antibiotics or not

A trial has found that TAP blocks offer little pain relief following abdominal surgery and do not reduce opioid use. The popular method, thought simple and safe by many, needs reconsidering according to the researchers. anesthesiologynews.com/a/MCkBAA/t
