In their Specious Art paper, Chari & Lior Pachter claim that tSNE/UMAP are as arbitrary as a random elephant shape. But are they?
We show in our comment that this is false and throws the tSNE/UMAP baby out with the bathwater!

Yesterday, I started as Assistant Professor for data science in diabetes care at the University of Bern. Thank you for the warm welcome, I am very much looking forward to working with my new colleagues at Insel Gruppe Universität Bern and DCB!
We have finally massaged the t-SimCNE code base to be in a state that is hopefully useful to others. The package can now be installed as easy as `pip install tsimcne`. The code is available on github github.com/berenslab/t-si… and the docs are on RTD t-simcne.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ 🧵/6

Wish there was a quicker way to catch fraudulent papers?
Or to explore the gender gap across biomed research?
Check out this piece I wrote for Science about an atlas of PubMed articles designed to explore these Qs. Dmitry Kobak Rita González Márquez science.org/content/articl…
Building on Rita González Márquez's latest additions to our preprint, I've been thinking more about the fraudulent papermill products in our big T-SNE map (static.nomic.ai/pubmed.html). There's one dot between this and modern AI model training especially worth connecting… (1/n)
I've updated our interactive visualization to include Rita González Márquez's new data about retracted articles. This highlights clusters that are potentially the product of paper mills. Click through to explore these neighborhoods at static.nomic.ai/pubmed.html#re…

One of THE MOST interesting big-data analyses that I have read all year! “Interestingly” experimental and clinical research on PubMed segregated quite far apart from each other. Must read for any researcher! Great job Dmitry Kobak, Rita González Márquez and team!
