A great find by Pierre this afternoon this smart first winter #CaspianGull was sat on top of Bidston Recycling Centre and I was lucky to be on the motorway just ten minutes away when he messaged. Thanks Pierre 🙏 A first for me on #Wirral ✅ #Winter #WirralBirding

Caspian Gulls are still quite a rarity in Ireland so great to get an opportunity to enjoy this 1st wnt bird at Arklow, Co.Wicklow this afternoon.

Im very glad to see our study on Arctic Skuas has just been published - it's all about the global conservation status (with population estimates for all countries) of these iconic seabirds, which we are losing at an alarming rate in the UK. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Overall, a total of 3 Caspian Gull (!) alongside 3 Yellow-legged Gull, an LBBG × HG hybrid, and c.30 argentatus yest’y. Looks like the #Wirral has a premier gulling site 🔥

As 1st-winters Russian Common Gulls ssp heinei go…this is as close as I’ve come! A darker trailing edge to the underwing would have been nice but in every other feature it looks good for this age group - Wanstead Flats at the weekend #londonbirds

It was great to see several Caspian Gulls of various ages in Denmark. A frozen lake in the city of Copenhagen had four in a day roost of argentatus Herring Gulls. This is a species I would love to see more often, as they are still a really rare bird in Ireland. BirdGuides

Pretty nice views of the local Greater Scaup this afternoon on West Kirby marine lake #Wirral. Shame it’s now been flushed again by boats, onto the Dee estuary - C & W BIRD NEWS

As part of regular monitoring of birds at The Lough in Cork City, barry o'mahony and I ringed an adult Ring-billed Gull yesterday. Didn’t realise, but seems to be the first to be ringed in Britain or Ireland. Look forward to learning where it goes! National Parks and Wildlife Service BTO BirdWatch Ireland

After five hours of searching Speke Hall and the surrounding area, decent views were finally obtained of the putative male Great-tailed Grackle at its roost site: bright pale eye, large size, and green sheen of note.

An interesting goose paired to a Tundra Bean. The all pale peachy-pink bill, white halter and small dark spots on the upper belly perhaps point to it being a Tundra Bean X Russian Whitefront hybrid rather than an aberrant Tundra Bean. With Ash McElwee and Graham Fellows 💙

A handsome 1st winter Caspian Gull at st Margaret's bay this morning, and a similarly nice Yellow-legged gull of the same age y'day.
