There seems to be this push to have a “best” exercise intensity. You see it now with zone 2. You saw it a decade ago with HIIT. Reality: You are a chef. You want lots of ingredients, doses, and mixtures. You can make more yummy things. Same applies to exercise.

A hill I will gladly die on. Just because you have completed an Ironman, marathon or any sporting event does not immediately qualify you to coach and give out plans for said event. Coaching is much more nuanced its being able to see the big picture, periodisation and balance.

The common notion of trying to run 180 strides per minute is way too quick turnover for most beginner and intermediate athletes... Why? Speed = Stride Rate x Length. If you're running 10-minute miles... you're just spinning your wheels, covering zero ground...

Congratulations to Sean Paul Breslin who is now a CHANNEL SWIMMER! He landed at the west end of Cap Griz Nez completing in 12hrs and 14mins (unratified). Well done Sean and all on board Rowena! channelswimmingassociation.com/swim/5857/sean…

Sean is flying along. We’ve left the Separation Zone and are now in the NE shipping lane. Wind has lifted and sea deteriorated but we’re still making excellent progress 👌 RedTopSwim Channel Swimming Association

Cadence (step rate) is often misunderstood. 1/ 180 steps/minute is probably too fast for most runners 2/ Cadence numbers are almost always measured during easy running If your easy runs are slower than 10min/mile, it's ok to be in the 160's. If you're 7:30 - 10:00, it's ok to

I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians. I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor. My time as Governor taught me to

One thing I find crazy about run influencers is how many marathons they seem to do in a year and how close together. If you do a marathon properly I find it very hard to do more than 2 a year and with a big gap between It’s difficult as many will see it and find this “normal”!

If someone tells you zone 2 is key and all you need, they are wrong. If someone tells you HIIT is the best and all you need, they’re wrong. You need every zone. To different degrees depending on goal Let’s stop glorifying single intensities as if they’re a cure all.

You can't beat fundamentals. Elite performers go back to the basics often. Not so good performers think they are too good to practice the fundamentals.

So glad to see Dr. Peter Attia talk about FTP and other definitions with Olav. Great podcast for all those endurance athletes and coaches out there. But....... Ugh. CLOSE but NOT the official definition of FTP. Thank GOODNESS that Olav included the 5-minute blow-out effort BEFORE

Too often runners are pushed to going longer too soon. The reality is...many of those runners would benefit from spending time mastering the 5k or 10k instead of jumping quickly to the marathon.

Was just watching a reel that suggested a marathon taper of 3 weeks.. 3 weeks before the marathon I’d suggest doing your hardest workout. I really would hate to be a new runner or triathlete these days. You have so many people shouting advice and tips based on zero facts!

A good high school varsity miler is training more than your average 3 hour marathoner. Pretty wild to think about. What this means? For most serious amateur marathoners: the roadblock to improvement is almost always volume.

Being 80 percent 100 percent of the time is better than being 100 percent 50 percent of the time. Consistency trumps occasional perfection.
