I wish I could go back to my first years if teaching and undo some of the practices I thought were grounded in research.

So why is the Simple View of Reading simple but simultaneously complex? Well it's simple because it confirmed that both decoding and language comprehension are necessary for reading success. It's complex because acquiring and integrating all the parts is very complex! 👇

I was honored to represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today at the @NBACares All-Star Day of Service. We had the great pleasure of welcoming NBA players, families, and executives to the Bishops Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City.

If I were teaching a journalism or speech and debate class, this would be required material. The preparation, set up and delivery by Jon Stewart is masterful.

Holly Korbey Robert Pondiscio I do worry that many teachers, my early career self included, have been misled to believe that “canned curriculum” are an affront to their autonomy. I think this is silly, personally, as the decision making involved in teaching even with materials on hand is still very taxing

Zach Groshell Holly Korbey Robert Pondiscio egg-zactly The level of nuance required to reach all kids requires researched-based and thoughtfully-crafted materials, assessments, and tools. Wanting teachers to do it all seems disconnected from the reality of the job, and likely rooted in politics and insecurity.

A nugget from #StandardsInstitute from Lacey Robinson "People do better when more is expected of them." What am I expecting of students, all students.
