Saw Oystercatcher parent trying to encourage chicks to jump from roof of a school, yesterday. Nest-site selection has changed in the UK since the first pairs moved inland from coastal beaches in about 1840. wadertales.wordpress.com/2016/06/13/oys… 🎂 #ornithology

Corncrake back at RSPB The Oa. I’ll be honest, I had almost given up on one arriving this spring, and then a few days ago this delight arrived. We now have everything crossed he’ll find a female, and be productive. 🤞 #Corncrake

Farming and conservation. In a less predictable climate, we're going to have to get better at collecting and saving water. Successful example discussed in blog from 14 June 2019 🎂 wadertales.wordpress.com/2019/06/14/man… #ConservationScience

It is now official, the Whimbrel is now 2 species not 1. It was thought that Whimbrel were the same species the world over, but now we have the Eurasian Whimbrel and the Hudsonian Whimbrel. Article below (but the article photo is not a whimbrel!) birdlife.org/news/2025/06/1…

Each time when I stand in front of it I think: How did he do it! How did he create that reflection of the yellow lemon On the silver ewer WITH PAINT! Just simply incredible. Detail of Willem Kalf's still life in the Rijksmuseum.

Heartbreaking news- an intense storm (40 mm) while one of our #curlew families was hatching. All the chicks died of exposure, one in the egg. Poor Mum couldn’t keep them dry and warm. She lost her first nest this year to a stoat and all her chicks in the previous 2 years to fox
