I wonder if Gary Lineker would have been asked to step back from MOTD by the BBC if he had tweeted "I think the government's small boats policy is fab! About time!" I think we all know the answer to that. And I think any right-thinking person knows why he was right to speak out.

Worst of the debates so far. Some questions border on asinine, the host isn’t moderating, Keir Starmer is less confident than previously (but is doing well to keep going through the endless interruptions) & Rishi Sunak is coming across as yappy & petulant. Awful. #bbcdebate

Telling that Keir Starmer’s closing #BBCdebate statement focused on what to vote FOR, whereas Rishi Sunak’s focused on what NOT to vote for. So they both basically centred their arguments around The Labour Party. That’ll probably prove to be a poor strategy for at least one of them…
