In April, 14,929 people were displaced in Ancuabe. Some returned, while others are rebuilding in host areas - like Fatima, who sells tomatoes in Marrokane to support her family of 5. Today, UNHCR's Representative met families like hers navigating resilience and hope.

Recent attacks by armed groups in northern #Mozambique displaced over 46,000 people in July alone, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Cabo Delgado and stretching limited aid resources, UN Humanitarian reports. news.un.org/en/story/2025/…

In Cabo Delgado, conflict has intensified again. ⚠️ 56,215 people displaced since late July, many in urgent need. UNHCR leads the protection response: GBV prevention, support for people with disabilities, MHPSS & protection desks—support that helps families start to rebuild.

This week in Mozambique, I saw the scale of overlapping crises: 1.3M displaced by conflict & extreme weather, with >2 security incidents daily in Cabo Delgado. Aid must go hand in hand with long-term resilience.

UNHCR and 🇯🇵 Japan sign a USD 6.9 million partnership to restore access to civil documentation and legal services for displaced families in Cabo Delgado. The initiative strengthens national systems and brings essential services closer to communities.

Displacement can deepen the barriers faced by persons with disabilities. In Cabo Delgado, UNHCR supported the provision of assistive devices during the visit of First Lady Gueta Chapo, helping restore mobility, independence and dignity.

On Mozambican Women’s Day, we recognize the strength and resilience of women across the country. Many of the people UNHCR serves— and many of those delivering support—are women, working every day to support and protect others.
