Did you know that ringed seals are less vocal than grey seals? Researchers including M. S. Prawirasasra at Tallinn University of Technology have recently been studying the ambient sounds in the Gulf of Riga. You can access the research report here: mdpi.com/2077-1312/9/8/…

Update on the Greenland shark. Follow up tests indicate the shark had a bacterial meningitis, which helps explain the out of habitat live stranding- may be a world's first discovery. More work is going to follow, huge thanks again to everyone involved. theguardian.com/environment/20…

#HKBU's biologists have discovered three new species of hard #coral at Sung Kong and Waglan Island in the eastern waters of Hong Kong. The species all belong to the genus #Tubastraea #筒星珊瑚屬 which have never been identified anywhere else in the world. bit.ly/3akdQeV

Very happy to share our manuscript “Ancient dolphin genomes reveal rapid repeated adaptation to coastal waters”: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… We use ancient genomes from 8,610-5,626 years BP bottlenose dolphins to investigate the mode and tempo of parallel adaptation.

🧬 It's National DNA Day! This is not DNA, but it is science! 🧪 With DEBs Foundation, BDMLR, Cornwall Marine Pathology Team, CSIP and CEFAS, analysed seal samples for PCBs. Out of 7 samples, 6 were found to be above low threshold, & 3 above the high threshold for toxic effects.
