Heading back to ZSL Science after meeting my CSIP colleague Matthew Westfield to relay transfer this male common dolphin, found dead stranded in Pembrokeshire on Thursday. #CSIOfTheSea examination to follow next week, thanks to all involved in the recovery!
A mass stranding of five sperm whales occurred within the Humber estuary last weekend- unfortunately all likely died and bodies are scattered around the estuary. Working with our partners in the region to try to #CSIOfTheSea examine any that are safe to access. More to follow...
On the way back to ZSL Science after recovery of a few strandings today- picked up a thin looking adult male common dolphin and a Kemp's ridley turtle from the Devon Wildlife Trust team and a Welsh stranded common dolphin from Matthew Westfield. #CSIOfTheSea examinations to follow soon
Couple more local strandings in over the last few days- picking up this common dolphin calf and porpoise tomorrow from our friends at Adur & Worthing Councils. Found dead stranded at Lancing and Shoreham, #CSIOfTheSea examinations to follow soon. Many thanks to everyone who helped us!
This young minke whale was found dead stranded at Littlehampton, West Sussex last Friday. Hoping to conduct #CSIOfTheSea examination tomorrow with my CSIP colleague Simon Spiro, more to follow. Many thanks to our friends at Arun District Council for their help!
Young (and very skinny) white-beaked dolphin found dead stranded yesterday at South Gare, Redcar. Body recovered, awaiting later pickup for #CSIOfTheSea examination at ZSL Science. Huge thanks to dave leng for swift recovery and thanks to our friends at BDMLR for help too!
Two harbour porpoises found stranded in Blackpool over the last week have been recovered to colleagues at University of Liverpool for necropsy through our #CSIOfTheSea collaboration with them. One with possible encircling netmark around the head, look forward to hearing more on what they learn!
