The show must go on! Student presentations for UNCW Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences OCN 350 (Advanced Oceanography) were interrupted by a fire alarm. Evacuated to drizzling outdoor conditions. I asked the students what they wanted to do, and they opted to carry on, using an iPad for outdoor presentations!

Global temperatures are now available from Copernicus ECMWF's ERA5 reanalysis product for 2023. They find it was the warmest year on record by a large margin, at 1.48C above preindustrial levels, higher than the 1.43C that JRA-55 reported earlier this week:
