I think perhaps as a profession we expend far too much energy into trying to encourage, enforce and track that pupils read at home. Probably more useful to imagine ‘what would I do if none of my pupils read at home?’ and then start just doing that every day.

13 years in and this govt has completely trashed teacher recruitment. They did this. Nobody else is to blame. Their MATs, their zero tolerance, their removal of professional autonomy, their teacher bashing, their exam system, their Ofsred regime, their ITT reforms. Their failure.
