I think we need to stop asking how everything will scale. While we of course need viable, scalable alternatives to eg plastic there is also a compelling case for the establishment of hyper local systems and economies, especially in the case of manufacturing and repair.

Sleeping on the streets is NOT a lifestyle choice. We don’t have nearly enough affordable homes, rents are soaring and this is leaving people destitute and forced to sleep rough. This is a consequence of poverty. And poverty in this country has been exacerbated by policy choices

honestly i’m entirely on this woman’s side. the alternative to basic services being non-operational being to ‘go online and download an app’ unfairly excludes a number of the older generation who might not have smartphones as well as people who can’t afford them

So, if you fall in love & marry someone from overseas, that’s the income you need to settle them here. It’s very high. Something like 75% of us earn less than that. Is it fair to limit family formation to the rich? Is it conservative potentially to divide families?

I do think that the older generation’s ongoing belief that they worked hard to buy homes and younger people must be prioritising phones and other nonsense is behind the lack of attention. When we cover this, we always get emails about ‘I lived on beans, they should too’ etc
