BREAKING: significant reductions in crop productivity in Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota likely by 2030 due to climate change. We need to scale up adaptation now.

Great reporting from Emmy Victor. Climate change will drag down U.S. farm productivity by 2030, but adaptation (new seeds, diverse crops, etc) can help farmers overcome those slowdowns. We need to rapidly reduce emissions *and* prepare for climate impacts we can’t avoid.

What's the link between food, finance and climate? As climate change makes it harder for farmers to grow food, banks, lenders and co-ops take on more financial risk. They can manage that risk (and seize new opportunities) by helping farmers prepare for climate impacts. #COP27

“Banks know that climate change is a financial risk to them, but the vast majority are not proactively supporting farmers in adapting to climate change. They need to rapidly increase their efforts to help farmers prepare for the climate impacts that we cannot avoid." #COP27

Momentum on methane continues! 150 countries are now on board to tackle methane, which is among the fastest routes to slow warming. Love to see it: funds for enteric methane (cow burps), research and development, innovation reuters.com/business/cop/c…

"The new fund for loss and damage established in the Sharm El-Sheikh Implementation Plan is historic," says EDF's Angela Churie Kallhauge. Having agriculture and food security in the cover text is a big deal too! #COP27 edf.org/media/cop27-ag…

Big and excellent news indeed! Danone to scale proven, farmer-focused solutions to cut methane from its fresh milk sourcing by 30% by 2030. Excited EDF involved to ensure rigorous science, measurement, advocacy, transparency, accountability

💯💯 Farm bill is so consequential for climate change and conservation (and yet many enviros don’t have it on their radar). Thanks for covering this Adam Aton!

Must read story about the most advanced methane satellite ever built, MethaneSAT. Cutting methane pollution is the fastest way to slow global warming; it requires a way to track invisible emissions worldwide. This is it newyorker.com/news/annals-of… via David W. Brown The New Yorker

It’s day 2 of the AIM for Climate #AIM4C summit hosted the by the US and UAE. $13 billion has been pledged by gov’t and industry towards climate-friendly agriculture. The UAE has said COP28 will be “a game-changer for food systems.” My coverage so far: reuters.com/business/susta…

Catastrophic floods in the Hudson Valley. An unrelenting heat dome over Phoenix. Ocean temperatures hitting 90 degrees Fahrenheit off Miami's coast. A deluge in Vermont. These events are happening simultaneously as climate change fuels extreme weather. nyti.ms/3rn9ZG4
